Major Rick Kriseman fundraiser set for June 18
In his bid to have Mayor added to his resume, Rick Kriseman will be honored by a reception/fundraising event next week.
The goal is to mobilize friends and supporters to help the former Councilmember and House District 53 representative unseat St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster.
Attorneys Will Conroy and Leonard Englander will host the function, scheduled Tuesday, June 18 at the law firm of Englander Fischer. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m.
Recently, Kriseman has been collecting a number of bipartisan endorsements, including former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink, as well as Republicans Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala and former state Sen. Paula Dockery.
Kriseman seems to have gained popular support in his most recent candidacy. After all, he was the only person who qualified for the Aug. 27 primary by petition, receiving more than the required 1,000 signatures. Petitions are often seen as a good gauge of a candidate’s strength. Other candidates were forced to pay the $250 fee.
Despite collecting enough petition signatures to qualify, recent polling shows Kriseman still has some room to grow in order to win in November. The latest StPetePolls survey has Kriseman trailing Kathleen Ford by about four points, with Foster languishing in third.
So far, only two others have announced an intention to enter the race: Anthony Cates and perennial candidate Paul Congemi. The qualification period for both mayor and city council candidates continues until June 24.
The citywide general election is Nov. 5.
Englander Fischer is located at 721 First Ave. N in St. Petersburg. Suggested contributions are $100 (to a maximum of $500) and can be made in advance at www.Kriseman.com. Anyone wishing to attend can RSVP by contacting Tom Alte at (217) 257-6998 or by email at email@example.com.
