Having ceded his aspirations to be Senate President in 2015 and now focusing on the term beginning in 2017, Senator Jack Latvala continues to raise money at a prodigious pace for the various leadership committees with which he is associated.
During the legislative session earlier this year, Latvala, like all legislators, was prohibited from raising money for his campaign, a political party or any leadership funds with which he is associated.
But since session ended in March, Latvala has raised at least $54,725 for his three leadership funds.
Latvala added $32,725 to the Florida Leadership Fund, $14,500 for Working Together for Florida, and $7,500 for the Committee for Jobs and Growth since resuming his fundraising efforts.
Because contributions to and expenditures from legislative leadership funds must be disclosed within five days of being made, these are the most complete, up-to-date figures available.
All told, Latvala has raised just under $500,000 for his leadership committees.
Earlier this year, in the nine days before the beginning of the legislative session, Latvala’s leadership raised $119,515, making Latvala the leading fundraiser in the Florida Senate.
Since that time, Latvala struck a deal to support Andy Gardiner for Senate President in 2015-16, with Latvala saying he has the pledges committed to be Senate President after Gardiner’s term. Sen. John Thrasher has said he also intends to stand for Senate President. However, the committees most likely associated with Thrasher – the Florida First Initiative and the Committee for Responsible Representation – have yet to raise money for this election cycle.
