2014 here we come! Charlie Crist endorsing Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson for re-election

Former Gov. Charlie Crist is opening his wallet and pledging his support to U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, reports the Associated Press.

Crist said that he will attend a fundraiser for the Democratic incumbent that will be held at the home of trial lawyer John Morgan. Former President Bill Clinton will also be at the fundraiser.

Crist, who left office in early 2011, works at Morgan’s law firm.

Crist was a Republican when he was elected governor, but he switched to no party affiliation during his bruising 2010 campaign for U.S. Senate. He lost to Marco Rubio, who has become a rising star nationally for the Republicans.

Crist said he is supporting Nelson over likely-GOP nominee Connie Mack because Nelson is a friend and a good voice for Florida.
