Crist, Thrasher, Weatherford on Greer’s witness list

Former Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer wants to call several high profile witnesses in his criminal trial, including former Governor Charlie Crist and several former legislative leaders, recaps the News Service of Florida.

Greer also wants to call current House Speaker Will Weatherford, according to a report sent Thursday by the Associated Press. Also on the defense list cited by AP were former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, former Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, and former House speakers Dean Cannon, Tom Feeney and John Thrasher, along with former Senate President Mike Haridopolos.

Greer is facing theft charges, accused of defrauding the party while he was its chairman. The party alleges Greer essentially stole from it by paying a firm he set up to consult on the party’s fundraising. The trial is set to begin Feb. 11 in Orlando.
