Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz is “disappointed” with a fundraising email from Rep. Alan Grayson comparing the Tea Party to the Ku Klux Klan.
“Obviously I am disappointed in the use of that imagery. Both sides need to dial back that kind of rhetoric and look to bring more civility into politics,” Wasserman Schultz said in a statement reported by Lucy McCalmont in Politico.
The controversial letter distributed to Grayson’s supporters Monday included imagery of a burning cross in the shape of the “T” in Tea Party.
However, McCalmont notes that Rep. Wasserman Schultz did not actually go as far as to call on the outspoken Orlando-area liberal to stop using the fundraising email.
Former Rep. Allen West also criticized Grayson Tuesday, as well as President Barack Obama and other leading Democrats, for their silence over the use of the email. West had no comment Wednesday.
