Editors note: As lobbying shops report their second quarter compensation fees, several firms’ numbers are worth examining closer.
This quarter represented an extraordinary year-over-year jump for Lewis, Longman & Walker, PA, in its quarterly lobbying compensation. During the second quarter of 2012, the four-member team brought in as much as $220,000 in legislative fees and up to $49,000 in executive lobbying fees. One year later, these figures tallied to as much as $499,999 each for legislative and executive fees.
The Florida Manufactured Housing Association, alone, compensated up to $39,999 for legislative representation and up to $30,000 for executive lobbying; while the Ranger Drainage District and South Indian River Water Control District compensated a total of $136,000 and $120,000 respectively.
LLW’s lobbying team, comprised of Lori Killigner, Terry Lewis, James Linn and Christopher Lyon, worked with 25 clients this quarter, including various health care, water, and property groups.
It is interesting to note that Killinger’s husband, Lee, also manages an impressive Tallahassee lobby shop — and while the couple lobby for groups with similar interests, they actually share no client in common.
Lee Killinger, along with Albert Balido and Frank Bernardino, comprise Anfield Consulting. Like LLW, Anfield represented 25 legislative clients this quarter, summing as much as $499,000 each for legislative and executive fees.
Anfield’s clients include various municipalities and water interests, such as Palm Beach County and the American Water Works Association, and likely thanks to the addition of Balido, a few trial bar interests as well — notably, the Florida Justice Association which compensated as much as $39,999 for legislative lobbying.
Each quarter, lobbyists who are registered to represent clients before Florida’s legislature or executive branch must submit reports detailing their client roster and compensation ranges. This week, reports are due for the period spanning April 1 through June 30, 2013 and reflect the year-round work that these firms do in representing interests that span every industry sector.
