Fledgling Bay Pop magazine moving to online-only

Bay Pop magazine debuted last February and made quite a splash in Tampa Bay with its glossy profiles of Tampa Bay area business leaders, fashion spreads and party pictures. Published by South Florida man-about-town Jerry Powers, Bay Pop aimed to represent the “people, culture and arts of the Bay area,” according to an inaugural letter from the editorial director.

Well, it now looks like that goal will be achieved only online. The glossy spreads are making way for an online-only edition of Bay Pop.

“So, what I’m trying to say is that BAY POP, the printed, oversized beautiful, high-end, luxury coffee table magazine is taking a break, saving some trees and at least, for the time being, will be coming to you as a 24/7 digital-only magazine/blog,” Powers blogged today

Continued Powers: “When we came to West Central Florida about a year ago the plan was for a media company that would start with print and morph into a website that you could read on your computer, laptop, iPad (or competing tablet device) and your phone. That plan is starting now. We have learned a great deal about the areas we cover and have seen more and more people view our content digitally.”

I’m not sure how many in the Bay area were aware enough of the print edition of Bay Pop to now go looking for it online, although former Creative Loafing dude Eric Snyder’s blog for Bay Pop is worth bookmarking.
