As the clock ticks down for Gov. Rick Scott to sign the budget for the coming year, he will be flying to Santiago, Chile, as the head of an Enterprise Florida trade mission.
Scott and an entourage of nearly 100 business, government and port officials depart for the South American nation Monday and return May 24, the deadline to sign the $74.5 billion fiscal package.
Asked Tuesday at Port Miami if he would sign the budget before flying out of state, Scott told reporters, “I’m reviewing the budget and I haven’t decided when to finish that.”
Florida TaxWatch, a nonprofit watchdog organization, is set to release on Thursday its annual report of so-called fiscal “turkeys” that are scattered throughout the budget.
Scott won’t be back in Tallahassee for long. He will lead a delegation of aviation, aerospace and defense firms to the 50th International Paris Air Show, which runs from June 17 to June 23. The trips are Scott’s eighth and ninth since taking office and his second air show, after attending the Farnborough International Air Show in England last July.
