How screwed up are Florida and Tampa Bay Democrats? Consider this…
With Rev. Manuel Sykes stating that he does not plan to challenge incumbent Republican David Jolly in Congressional District 13, Democrats are 27 hours away from not fielding a legitimate candidate in a seat they just spent $12 million trying to win a special election for the seat.
Alex Sink isn’t running.
Jessica Ehrlich isn’t running.
Eric Lynn has decided not to run.
Charlie Justice and Janet Long aren’t running.
In the most battleground-y of battleground seats, no Democrat wants to run.
That’s pretty screwed up.
Update – 9:42 a.m. The National Republican Congressional Committee is having fun with the Democrats inability to field a candidate in CD 13.
This morning, spox Katie Prill emailed a photo of Luca Brasi to highlight Curtis Krueger’s story about Pinellas Democratic Party chair Mark Hanisee’s telling Sykes that he would be “persona non grata” if he ran in CD 13.
“Nancy Pelosi and her Washington Democrats just don’t get it,” said Prill. “They continue to bully Democrat candidates out of the CD-13 race in hopes that they find someone to put up millions of their own personal money so the DCCC doesn’t have to. It’s unfortunate Pelosi and the DCCC were able to bamboozle Alex Sink into running but now we are all left wondering who the next sucker of the DCCC will be.”
