In an effort to generate more revenue, Florida legislators are considering a special excise tax on bottled water.
“Nobody really needs to drink bottled water,” argued tax advocate, Senator Evelyn Lynn (R-Ormond Beach). “Municipal water systems provide all the water people need.”
Bipartisan support came from Senator Charlie Justice who characterized bottled water as “a rich man’s drink. If a person can afford to buy bottled water then he can afford to pay a tax on it.” I read this story on another blog and could not believe Justice said such a thing, but then I remember Justice’s other foot-in-mouth line in which he referred to the possible tax on bottled water and said that “a lot people … probably don’t know whether it’s taxed or not.”
Quotes like that have me wondering what’s in Charlie Justice’s Aquafina???
