From Eric Eikenberg to the candidate’s sister.
That’s how far Charlie Crist’s campaign has traveled now that he’s told the St. Peterburg Times editorial board that he has named his sister, Margaret Wood, the interim campaign manager.
She officially is called interim campaign manager, the governor said, but only to give her an opportunity to step down if she doesn’t like it.
Doesn’t he need a seasoned pro? “No,” Crist said Thursday. “You know what you need? I’ve learned I’ve learned this in the last month – Somebody who’s loyal, really, honest, that cares about you, and is smart and tough. My older sister Margaret has always been that.”
If I was an advisor to a candidate for the mosquito control board, I would not let the candidate’s sister run the campaign.
I don’t think it’s said enough: Charlie Crist has yet to show he knows how to run a successful U.S. Senate campaign. So far, he’s oh-for-two. Remember, he got his lunch handed to him in 1998 when he ran against Bob Graham. And he just got out-hustled, out-raised, out-organized, out-everything by Marco Rubio.
What Crist really needed was less Big Sister and more Tough Motherfucker.
