The Department of Health announced Tuesday Patricia Nelson is the executive director of the Office of Compassionate Use. Nelson has been the deputy director of the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Regulatory Reform in the Governor’s office.
Nelson will lead the department’s effort to construct a regulatory framework for the implementation of the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act of 2014. Lawmakers directed DOH to have regulations in place by Jan. 1, 2015 for the growing, processing and dispensing oil from marijuana to treat seizure and other patients with debilitating diseases.
An administrative law judge threw out the first set of rules Nov. 14. DOH has scheduled a rule making workshop Dec. 30th in Orlando. That meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Florida Department of Health office, 6101 Ellenor Drive, Orlando.
Nelson has also served as the Rules Attorney for the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and also as the assistant general counsel of the Florida Department of Health.
