A bill that would give unmarried couples, straight or gay, rights under a recognized domestic partnership, (SB 196) gets its first hearing in a Senate committee today. The measure is sponsored by Sen. Eleanor Sobel and was referred to her committee, the Senate Children and Families Committee, which will hear it.
“This is about civil union, about registries, about a lot of people who would benefit from equal protection under the law,” Sobel told the News Service in an interview.
