Failed mayoral candidate Deveron Gibbons calls Marco Rubio’s speakership ‘a failure’

From the Buzz: We just caught up with Republican former St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Deveron Gibbons awaiting the president’s arrival at the University of Tampa. Charlie Crist was a big Gibbons supporter, and Gibbons — along with Republican St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster — dismissed the idea that Crist could face more backlash for appearing with Obama at MacDill Air Force Base today. Gibbons also dismissed the notion that Marco Rubio will remain a serious threat to Crist.

“Marco was a mediocre speaker at best,” said Gibbons, who was a lobbyist with Holland and Knight when Rubio was speaker. “Many would say Rubio’s was a failed speakership because of all the hype surrounding him with his 100 Ideas.”
