The Legislature has formally issued an “invitation to negotiate” for a gambling study that could help lawmakers decide whether to expand the kinds of games offered in Florida.
The study, which would be finished by Oct.1, should include a look at the current gambling industry in Florida, potential changes that the Legislature could make and their effects, and a broader look at the relationship between gambling facilities and the nearby business community.
“The study will analyze not only what we have but also new possibilities knocking at the door,” wrote Senate Gaming Committee Chairman Garrett Richter in a memo to senators. “It will inform our choice of whether or not to open the door, and if so, how wide.” Replies are due by 3 p.m. on March 20, and the Legislature hopes to have a contract executed by April 5.
