The St. Petersburg Times’ Adam Smith just tweeted: “Charlie Crist on Elena Kagan: ‘I think she’d do a great job'”
Now this could get interesting: I’m told that Dem Senate candidate Kendrick Meek is about to call on Charlie Crist to reveal whether he’d vote to confirm Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.
Crist, intriguingly, has not said anything substantial about Kagan since her nomination was announced some 72 hours ago. Meek immediately released a statement strongly supporting the choice; Marco Rubio has come out and said he’s got serious concerns about her.
Crist came out against Sonia Sotomayor back when he was still a Republican. But he’s now running as an independent, meaning he needs some Dem votes to prevail. So Meek is about to send out a statement demanding Crist reveal where he stands on Kagan:
“Governor Crist and Speaker Rubio stood together to oppose Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Will they stand together again opposing Solicitor General Elena Kagan’s nomination?”
