Two more Senate heavyweights have climbed aboard to endorse candidate Tom Lee in his primary bid against Rep. Rachel Burgin in a Senate District 24 race that has turned ugly and personal, reports the News Service of Florida.
On Thursday, Lee received the endorsements of Sens. John Thrasher and Joe Negron in his quest to become the GOP nominee. The support comes in addition to previous endorsements from Senate President-Designate Don Gaetz, Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner and Sen.Jack Latvala. Leaders often abstain from primary skirmishes but Senate leadership has decided to stand behind Lee in a race that pits him against the more conservative, two-term House member. A recent flyer chastised Lee for marital infidelities during his preivious legislative tenure, an attack that prompted RPOF chairman Lenny Curry to step in to denounce the personal attacks. Burgin has said she was unaware of the mailer.
