National gun rights activists, sportsmen mobilizing TallyMadness campaign for Marion Hammer

Now, it’s getting interesting.

National gun rights activists are mobilizing a get-out-the-vote campaign for the NRA’s Marion Hammer in TallyMadness — the online voting competition to determine Florida’s “best” lobbyist.

An email found on the message board of “Southern Airboat” reads:

“Marion Hammer won the first round before she or we even knew the competition had even started this year.

“She has been listed in the competition before but never paid any attention to it nor did we. It just wasn’t a big deal. However, the last time Ms. Hammer was listed, we were told that the lobbyist who eliminated her by waging a big campaign to against vote her, bragged about kicking the NRA lobbyist’s butt. We figured we should at least make some effort this year … clearly the lobbyist in the current bracket this year is campaigning hard.

“If you care about helping Ms. Hammer, please go here and vote. It is an ongoing competition all brackets are won.”

Other than the snide comment about TallyMadness not being a big deal, it’s great to see groups from outside of Florida taking part in TallyMadness.

On a second message board, this one described as a “focal point for Texas firearms information and discussions”, there is a more-pointed blurb:

“Florida’s terrific gun laws, self-defense laws, and preemption laws are in place because of her tireless work. Marion absolutely controls the Florida Legislature on those issues.

“Every year a rather unusual poll is run to determine the State’s “best lobbyist.” Marion doesn’t campaign and last year a woman named Donna Simmons edged Marion out by campaigning heavily as she is again this year. That’s no big deal in a rather light-hearted poll, right? Right . . . right up to the point that Ms. Simmons started bragging about beating Marion and mentioning the NRA and the Unified Sportsmen of Florida. That’s somewhat like insulting your “Momma” to gun owners, so we need to get behind Marion and vote for her.”

Over 7,200 votes have already been cast in the Hammer vs. Simmons bracket.

I guess Marion’s supporters have TallyMadness in their crosshairs.
