Because the Florida political universe does not have enough email programs already, we here at FP just launched “Last Call” — a primetime look at what’s going down in Florida Politics.
Many of you will recognize the format of “Last Call” because it is essentially what we were publishing each night during the 2017 Legislative Session. It was the overwhelmingly positive response we received from readers of “Sixty Days” which prompted us to wonder, ‘What if we did this all year long?’
Well, that’s what we’re gonna do (although we will flip back to the “Sixty Days” format during the 2018 legislative session).
Designed to hit inboxes in the early evening, this email is for the political junkies who need a last call of the good stuff before settling down for the night.
We promise to keep “Last Call” short and sweet. This is not “Sunburn.” This is not ‘Playbook.” This is an email purposefully designed so that you hit the scroll down button only once or twice before reaching the end.
However, in this brief space, we plan to deliver a lot of engaging content. We’ll recap the day’s most important story about Florida politics, and give you links to those stories that have developed since the newspapers landed on doorsteps. We’ll also highlight a Quote of the Day, whether it is said aloud or popped on Twitter.
Each day, there will be an original editorial sketch from the great Bill Day. His cartoons alone are worth opening the email. And, in partnership with Sachs Media Group, we will also be supplying some sort of illuminating data point about politics in the Sunshine State. It could be a list of the trending topics on social media. It could be a micro-infographic. Look for this work — helmed by the brilliant Karen Cyphers — in the Breakthrough Insights section.
Finally, we’ll give you a preview of some of the important items on the next day’s agenda, so that you can decide whether you need to wake up early or not.
The idea is that you will be able to read all of this in the time it takes the bartender to refresh your drink.
“Last Call” will be available via email and online and is being sent to all current subscribers of Sunburn. If you don’t want to receive “Last Call” — hey, we get it, you don’t want to hear from us twice in a day — just send us an email letting us know to take you off the list. Better to do this then hit “unsubscribe,” because that will take you off the list for Sunburn, too.
Hopefully, this is not an issue and you will value “Last Call” as much as you do our other projects.
