Power out for 2.2 million as restoration continues

Electricity remained out Thursday night for about 21 percent of utility customers across the state, as crews continued gradually restoring power after Hurricane Irma.

State numbers showed outages for about 2.2 million customer accounts, with Florida Power & Light — by far the state’s largest utility — accounting for about 1.27 million of that total.

Duke Energy Florida had about 371,000 outages, while electric cooperatives had more than 323,000.

Municipal utilities had about 174,000 customers without power, while Tampa Electric Co. had about 89,000.

In Miami-Dade County, 277,000 utility customers remained without power. Lee County had the second-highest total, with about 267,000, the state numbers show.
