Pulitizer Prize winning journalist Eugene Robinson was the keynoter at the Suncoast Tiger Bay‘s “Night with the Tigers” (which yours truly co-chaired). Robinson gave an insightful speech on contemporary politics, especially on the role race plays in society. More coverage on the event here and here.
It was on that topic I challenged Robinson, who had remarked that it was noteworthy that Barack Obama was re-elected and no one cared anymore that he was black. I thought Robinson was downplaying the issue of race in Obama’s administration, so I asked, based on President Obama’s choices for his second-term cabinet whether he had an “unhealthy crush on middle-aged white men?”
For this, I took home the coveted “Fang & Claw Award”, presented at each meeting to the member who “slashes through pretension and prevarication” with the toughest question of the day.
