Steve Kornell to host fundraiser

City Council candidate Steve Kornell is hosting a meet and greet for his friends, on Facebook and otherwise at the Kizmet Old School Cafe. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. For more info, hit Steve Lapinsiki (fresh off a nice win in Gulfport) up on his burner at 727-368-5032.

On a side note, is anyone as distressed as me to see this location as Kizmet Old School Cafe. This was the building that housed Grand Finale, which both me and Times food critic Chris Sherman both considered the best restaurant in the city in its day. It was also the place to buy the white, which is also one of the reasons why it closed down. But the bartenders that slang there went on to open Ambrosia and Cafe Alma. After Grand Finale, the building changed hands, eventually becoming a Euro hangout, which is how I met Ileana, a gorgeous bartender who would become one of my favorite loves.

I hope the building brings Steve Kornell as much happiness as it has me.
