Sure, Barack Obama will be outspent, but so was George W. in 2004 and he won

Barack Obama’s campaign continues to cry pour-mouth, e-mailing supporters yesterday with the subject line, “I will be outspent.”

“We’re getting outraised — a first for a sitting president, if this continues,” reads the solicitation. “Not just by the super PACs and outside groups that are pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into misleading ads, but by our opponent and the Republican Party, which just outraised us for the second month in a row.”

But what’s the big deal? George W. Bush was outraised in 2004 and he won handily.

According to data from, the Bush Campaign and the RNC raised a combined total of $727,891,693 for the 2004 presidential election, while John Kerry, the Democratic National Committee and Americans Coming Together spent $841,970,444 to unseat Bush.

Need I remind you who won in 2004?

Sure, Obama will be outspent, but what’s a hundred million dollars or so among friends?
