Two weeks before Election Day in St. Petersburg, mayoral candidate Jesse Nevel and District 6 City Council candidate Eritha “Akile” Cainion are on the air with their first television ad.
The most recent St. Pete Polls survey had Jesse Nevel in last place in the race for St. Petersburg mayor, however the Uhuru-affiliated candidate says that he’s actually getting the support of “many Democrats” who he claims are abandoning the Rick Kriseman campaign.
In their first televised debate, former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker put incumbent Mayor Rick Kriseman on the defensive over his handling of the city’s sewage crisis and construction of a new Pier. Kriseman returned fire, attacking Baker’s conservative ideology and previous interactions with the LGBTQ community.

The decision to change the format of an upcoming mayoral debate has led to the departure of one of the original sponsors of the event.
More than 24 hours after tickets for an upcoming mayoral debate were to be distributed to the public, sponsors of the event say are still unsure about how they plan to fill the seats at the one-hour forum. The debate is scheduled for July 25 at the Palladium in downtown St. Petersburg. Although three debates have been held between St. Petersburg mayoral candidates (but only one with all seven candidates on the ballot), arguably the biggest one will take place Monday, July 25, at the Palladium Theater.
