in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn has rarely been at odds with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce during his six-and-a-half years in office. But his proposal to raise property taxes in the city for the first time in 29 years is being rejected by the Chamber.

Joe Henderson: Bob Buckhorn made the right call not to run for Governor

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Bob Buckhorn is a gregarious, ambitious and determined man, and I think he would have made a fine governor for the state of Florida. He certainly ranks among the best mayors the city of Tampa has ever had. But I also believe he made the right call when he announced in an email to supporters Thursday morning that “I am not planning to be a candidate for Governor in 2018.” Now, saying “I am not planning …” does leave a little…

Shawn Harrison is hitting Lisa Montelione hard in the final days of their competitive House District 63 race. The ad begins as an homage of sorts to Montelione’s own television ad released last month, which depicted a commercial film set with a director, cameraman, technical crew — but no candidate. “Seen the Lisa Montelione commercial? You know, the one where she doesn’t show up,” asks the narrator at the beginning of Harrison’s ad, titled, “Where’s Lisa?” “Well, Montelione doesn’t show up as a Tampa City Councilwoman either,” as the…
