It’s a small lead — 27 ballots — but Democrats are now in front in the number of returned vote-by-mail ballots. With more than a half-million ballots turned in, the Division of Elections website Monday showed registered Democrats had submitted 210,734 ballots to Republicans’ 210,707. Nearly 50,000 vote-by-mail ballots already have been returned out of the 2.7 million requested for the November general election. Tuesday’s tally, exactly 48,331, was posted on the state’s Division of Elections website. That includes ballots to service members and others outside the country.
