Gov. Charlie Crist says he wasn’t aware of Jim Greer’s financial freelancing, but he apparently received plenty of input from two of his closest political advisers about the party boss. As reports of Greer’s wheeling and dealing with Republican Party funds and credit cards began to surface in 2008 and 2009, the governor was lobbied hard by George LeMieux and Brian Ballard, according to a source familiar with the situation. LeMieux urged Crist to keep Greer on board; Ballard advised Crist to…

From Politico: As spring eases into summer this Memorial Day, the political world is fixated on Big Trends: How deep does this year’s anti-incumbent fervor run? Will the economy make sufficient gains to help Democrats in November? What’s the real meaning of the Tea Party movement? Charlie Crist: Joe Lieberman was right, ‘I’m much happier now’

in Statewide by

Charlie Crist tells National Review Online that a conversation with Sen. Joe Lieberman (I., Conn.) helped to convince him to run for U.S. Senate as an independent. “[Lieberman] told me that [going independent] is the most liberating thing,” Crist says. “He was right. I’m much happier now, to be perfectly candid.” Crist tells us that he plans to run a “positive campaign” against his two main opponents, Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Kendrick Meek. “I’ll be a happy warrior,” he promises.…
