Mitch Perry Report for 9.7.16 — Pam Bondi’s reluctance to investigate Trump University resurfaces on the campaign trail

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Who knew Hillary Clinton was a fan of the University of South Florida Bulls? “Hello, Tampa! Hello, USF! I know I’m only the second-most exciting thing that’s happened here in the last few days. Your big win to open your football season got some attention,” the Democratic presidential nominee said to the audience who gathered at the rather intimate student recreation center on the North Tampa campus on Tuesday (And yes, that 56-20 victory over Towson was impressive). After dispensing…

Rick Scott schedules national media blitz for Thursday

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Rick Scott‘s spot on Morning Joe last week may not have gone so well, but Thursday finds the Florida Governor up and down the cable dial. His morning started with hits on Fox and Friends and CNBC’s Squawk Box before afternoon spots with Neil Caputo on Fox News and Jake Tapper on CNN. Scott’s interest to national media may have something to do with his endorsement of Donald Trump. “I’m asking all Republicans today to come together and begin preparing to win the general election…

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Hours after Gov. Rick Scott released an op-ed praising the 2016 presidential bid of Donald Trump, Scott took to the Fox News airwaves to chat with “Your World” host Neil Cavuto. Asked whether his attaboy for the New York real estate mogul was meant to defend Trump against recent criticisms, Scott replied he just wants what’s best for his fellow Republicans. “Well, the point is I think Republicans and I think Americans are tired of a president who has taken over our economy with…

David Jolly hits national media to explain support for Daniel Webster

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

U.S. Rep. David Jolly took to national airwaves to explain his support for fellow Floridian Daniel Webster for the next Speaker of the House. “I believe Dan is the right candidate to get us back to governing, to achieving conservative results through governing,” Jolly told Neil Cavuto of Fox News. “We’ve gone from the ‘do-nothing’ Congress to the ‘try-nothing’ Congress. We need to let the House work its will on behalf of the American people who entrust us to serve.” A take…

Rick Scott on Fox News: ‘People want an outsider’

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Gov. Rick Scott — away in Democratic New York on another out-of-state trip to entice businesses to relocate jobs to Florida — is not known for being particularly chatty with his home-state press corps, but he did make time to speak with FOX New’s Neil Cavuto on Wednesday afternoon. Scott, as usual, hewed closely to his well-worn talking points about the paramount importance of job creation and generally stayed upbeat, avoiding taking sides in either the Democratic or Republican 2016 White House primaries…

Jeb Bush: My kids don’t speak for me

in Statewide by

This is a huge but fascinating chunk from Jeb Bush’s interview with Neil Cavuto yesterday. Cavuto presses the hardest on Jeb’s silence over Crist vs. Rubio that I’ve heard. Also, note that Charlie Crist came out today to say he supports Florida AG Bill McCollum’s lawsuit over the individual mandate provision in the health care legislation. One more thing: Jeb clears up the idea that his sons sometimes speak for him. He says George supported Fred Thompson and Jeb Jr.…
