in 2017/Top Headlines by

For Jeb Bush, his presidential aspirations may be over, but not in the hearts of many of his more strident supporters. For the primaries and caucuses in 2016, nearly a quarter-million votes have been cast so far for 11 of the 13 Republicans who have already exited the race, including Bush, Ben Carson, Rand Paul, and Mike Huckabee. Eric Ostermeier of Smart Politics analyzed the first two dozen early GOP contests, finding that more than 229,000 votes – almost 2…

The interview came just one day after Rick Santorum was unable to list one of Rubio’s accomplishments. “His record of accomplishment is slim,” said Bush. “He was the Speaker of the (Florida) House, and he did a fine job there. But every…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Nashua, N.H. — Good morning from the Extended Stay America motel in Nashua, where it was an absolutely balmy 53 degrees at 5:30 a.m. It’s not, however, expected to get any warmer. No rain in the forecast (I don’t think) after a day that, well, if this were Florida, you’d have been hearing of severe flooding by lunchtime. By I digress. Rand Paul and Rick Santorum quit the race yesterday — er, “suspended” — their campaigns. Whatever. I’m genuinely disappointed…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

We’re on to New Hampshire, but first … Ted Cruz deserves plaudits for grinding out a great victory for himself in Iowa last night, but can he win enough delegates to earn the nomination? I maintain that he can’t and won’t, which makes Marco Rubio‘s strong third-place victory the big story going into the next week. Let’s look at the incredibly close results in the Democratic Primary. First off, Hillary Clinton is being called “the apparent victor” by every media…

Mitch Perry Report for 2.1.16 — Iowa, finally

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Good morning, everyone. While there will definitely be drama in awaiting the returns from Iowa tonight, I will argue right now that if Ted Cruz ekes out a victory, it won’t really mean all that much in the end. That’s a prediction, something I try to stay away from in — at least putting such statements in print (or in cyberspace). However, think about it: Iowa is a state that is designed for a guy like Cruz — heavy with religiously…
